Tax Ombud Urges Staff to Uphold Integrity, Service Excellence
The Tax Ombud/Chief Executive, Dr. John Nwabueze, has urged staff of the newly established Office of the Tax Ombud to uphold integrity and quality service delivery as the institution’s guiding principles.
Speaking at the induction ceremony for pioneer staff, themed “Building Institutional Excellence Through Shared Purpose and Professional Commitment,” Nwabueze stressed the importance of discipline, punctuality, and adherence to work standards.
He said effective tax dispute resolution would promote voluntary compliance, reduce friction between taxpayers and authorities, and diminish public scepticism about tax administration.
“Every member of staff has a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the successful delivery of the Office’s mandate, which represents one of the landmark achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tax reform agenda,” he noted.
Nwabueze assured staff of a conducive work environment, quality training, and improved conditions of service, while emphasising the need to provide taxpayers with efficient, professional, and timely services.
He revealed that the Office had launched a website, toll-free call centre, and digital Case Management System, enabling taxpayers to lodge complaints, access information, and track cases in real time at no cost.
The Ombud added that the institution had intensified stakeholder engagement nationwide to raise awareness of taxpayer rights and available dispute resolution channels.
The two-day induction programme featured knowledge-sharing sessions facilitated by experts and senior staff, aimed at equipping personnel to deliver on the Office’s mandate.
