Edun, Dangiwa Resigned, Not Sacked – Presidency

‎The Presidency on Wednesday clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, resigned from office and were not dismissed.

‎According to a State House statement signed by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Edun tendered his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on health grounds before the announcement of his replacement on Tuesday.

‎The statement said Dangiwa also resigned and thanked the President for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.

‎Edun, who turned 70 on Monday, was said to have submitted his resignation letter on his birthday, expressing appreciation for the chance to serve under the administration.

‎“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement quoted him as saying.

‎He added that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria had become stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected.

‎Before the official announcement of his exit, Edun reportedly paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where both men held a meeting lasting about an hour.

‎The former minister subsequently left office to focus on his private business interests.

‎Edun previously served as Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State between 1999 and 2004 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.

‎Dangiwa, an architect, earlier served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria from 2015 to 2022 and Secretary to the Katsina State Government before his appointment as minister in August 2023.

‎President Tinubu thanked both former ministers for what he described as their dedicated service and contributions to his administration’s economic reform agenda.

‎He also charged newly appointed Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele to build on ongoing reforms and advance the administration’s fiscal and economic objectives with discipline and innovation.

‎The President is also expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma to the Senate for confirmation as the new housing minister.
