RMAFC Holds Meeting On Revenue Allocation

The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has said it will hold a meeting from today in Lagos and six other States as part of the revenue allocation formula review process.

In a statement Sunday, RMAFC said a two-day public hearing will be held in Lagos from today while similar events will be held in Port Harcourt, Owerri, Lokoja, Kaduna, Gombe and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) this month.

It said the event in Lagos is for the South West geopolitical zones comprising Lagos, Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo and Osun where members of the public will share their views..

Participants would be drawn from States executives, legislatures, judiciary, local government officials, civil society groups, organized labour, elder statesmen, traditional rulers, among others.

Currently, the Federal Government takes 52.68 percent of the revenue shared; States get 26.72% while the Local Governments get 20.60%.

By Thursday and Friday, residents in the South South States comprising Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta and Edo will be briefed at Port Harcourt.

That of the South East will be held in Owerri on 11 and 12 of October with participants expected from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.

Kaduna will host the public hearing with participants expected from Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara for the North West. Also, participants from the North Central States will meet in Lokoja on 19 and 20, including those from Benue, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states.

By 21 and 22 of this month, there will be another hearing in Gombe with participants expected from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe. Then, the final event will be held on 25 and 26 in Abuja for the FCT.
