Arc (Dr.) Sambo said “we believe from what we have discussed, and from further discussions you will have during this stay, you will have a better understanding of the drive of this administration, in our effort to achieve our vision in upholding democratic values and ensuring that we transform the economy of this country, so that our people will banish poverty and live above the poverty level.”
Vice President Sambo therefore expressed confidence that “your support, we sincerely believe, will contribute towards the achievement of these noble objectives.”
Responding, Dr. Kaberuka, assured of the continuous support of the bank to the laudable economic policies of the administration, stressing that the progress of Africa is tied to the prosperity of Nigeria. He also used the occasion to commend the administration on the efforts made to mitigate the effects of the recent global economic downturn on the country’s economy.
Mr. Kaberuka, restated the Bank’s readiness to provide policy advice, empower the private sector, and enhance economic integration in the West African sub-region.
The occasion saw the attendance of Governors Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, Zamfara State and Isah Yuguda of Bauchi State. Minister of Finance, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Police Affairs, Adamu Maina Waziri, Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze, Minister of State Power, Nuhu Wya, Minister of State Finance, Hajiya Yabawa Lawan Wabi, were also present. Others present were members of the diplomatic corps and several captains of industry.
