Aviation Stakeholders Build Capacity In Entrepreneurship

The Federal Ministry of Transport, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency and the Accident Investigation Bureau recently organised a seminar to build capacity in effective entrepreneurship.

The two-day training anchored by the Centre for Cooperative Training, Research and Development of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was held at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, Badagry.

It focused on critical areas of empowerment such as financial intelligence, taxation of income of public servants, utilisation of cooperative funds, and tips for healthy living, among others.

The President of the agencies’ cooperative society, Mr. Babatunde Sotin, said the quest to build capacity of members, particularly in entrepreneurship, derived from the determination of his administration to invest in human development.

He stated, “You are aware that in the past couple of years, we have invested in building structures for the society like the guest house, offices, etc. Going from there, we now want to encourage and assist members who have business ideas to go into agriculture or any other business that can bring in additional income.

“Soft loans will be provided for members after feasibility studies and other legalities are conducted; but before they do that, they need to be equipped with the necessary skills and know-how, hence this programme.”

Sotin said this new direction became imperative as it would ensure that members did not retire into penury as several cases had shown in the past.

He also stated that more training programmes had been lined up to accommodate as many members as possible in the near future.
