Dangote Refinery Exports Over 600 Million Litres to Five African Countries

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has expanded its regional footprint with the export of 12 cargoes of refined petroleum products, totalling 456,000 tonnes (about 608 million litres), to five African countries.

The shipments, sold on a Free on Board (FOB) basis through international traders, were delivered to Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Togo, marking a milestone since the refinery reached its 650,000 barrels-per-day capacity in February 2026.

A senior refinery official said the exports reflect “growing confidence in Nigeria’s refining capacity and a shift in Africa’s fuel supply dynamics.”

The refinery is producing Euro 5 standard gasoline and diesel, which has boosted demand as African markets move to phase out lower-quality fuels.

Exports are expected to strengthen energy security in West, East, and Central Africa, reducing reliance on long-haul imports from Europe and the Middle East, while cutting logistics costs and delivery delays.

The official stressed that domestic supply would not be affected: “Solid yes, it won’t affect meeting local demands, because we factored that into our strategy from the time we started constructing the refinery.”

Reports indicate several African nations, including South Africa, Ghana, and Kenya, have formally approached the refinery for supply contracts amid global disruptions linked to the Iran war.

Analysts say the development positions Nigeria as a regional refining hub, boosting foreign exchange earnings and reshaping Africa’s fuel supply chain.
