It’s Un-Islamic to Use Borrowed Plate Numbers from Govt, Diplomatic Officials – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS 7.1 FCT Sector Command, has warned motorists against the illegal practice of borrowing and using government or diplomatic plate numbers, describing it as both a criminal offense and an un-Islamic act.

The warning was issued today during a road safety sensitization campaign at Wuye Juma’at Mosque, Abuja, where FRSC officials engaged worshippers after Friday prayers.

Addressing the congregation, Yusuf Yahaya, the team leader, emphasized that Islam teaches obedience to constituted authorities and that fraudulent practices—such as using unauthorized plate numbers—contradict Islamic principles of honesty and integrity.

“Some individuals take plate numbers from family members or acquaintances who are government officials or diplomats, using them to gain undue privileges and evade scrutiny,” Yahaya said.

“This is a form of forgery since the vehicle registration does not match the actual owner. As Muslims, we must uphold honesty and avoid such unethical behavior.”

He further highlighted the legal consequences of the act, warning that offenders risk severe penalties if caught.

According to him, the FRSC remains committed to enforcing compliance with traffic regulations and curbing fraudulent activities that undermine road safety and law enforcement efforts.

Beyond the warning on plate number misuse, Yahaya also advised parents to prioritize their children’s safety on the road, stressing that those under 12 years old must sit in the back seat to prevent potential injuries.

He urged all motorists to obey traffic laws, respect traffic signals, and ensure proper vehicle documentation.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to continuous engagement with various communities to promote road safety awareness and reduce accidents across the Federal Capital Territory.
