Goronyo Vows to Deliver Best Road Maintenance for Nigerians
The Minister of State for Works and Minister Superintending the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has assured Nigerians of improved road maintenance and safety across the federal road network.
Goronyo made this pledge during his familiarization visit to FERMA’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing citizens with smooth and secure road experiences. However, he acknowledged the challenge posed by inadequate budgetary allocations, which he described as a major constraint to achieving this vision.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prioritized infrastructure development, particularly road infrastructure. However, the limited budget due to competing national demands and economic constraints has made full implementation difficult,” Goronyo stated.
Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works, Engr. Adebiyi Olusesan Olufunso, the Minister also inspected FERMA’s proposed corporate headquarters along the Abuja Airport Road. Expressing satisfaction with FERMA’s performance, he pledged his support to ensure the agency fulfills its mandate.
Permanent Secretary Olufunso echoed the Minister’s concerns, noting that inadequate funding and delays in fund releases have contributed to setbacks in the road sector. Despite these challenges, he commended FERMA staff for their dedication, describing them as some of the best in the civil service.
In response, FERMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Emeka Agbasi, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s visit and support. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring federal roads remain motorable throughout the year.
As the government continues to address infrastructure challenges, stakeholders in the road sector are hopeful that sustained funding and policy support will drive improvements in road maintenance across the country.
