FHA Clarifies Allegations on Gwarimpa Police Station
The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has denied allegations that it re-allocated the land housing the Police Station on its Gwarimpa Housing Estate to cronies. The management made the clarification in a public notice on Monday, following a program aired on Human Rights Radio, Abuja, popularly known as ‘Berekete’.
The radio program alleged that the current Police Station was being moved to Dawaki area of Gwarimpa, with the plot re-allocated to friends of the FHA Managing Director. However, the FHA management expressed dismay at the radio station’s failure to balance its reports through counter-inquiry from the FHA.
According to the FHA, the land was temporarily allocated to the Nigeria Police in 1995 to provide security during the construction of the estate. The original allocation for a Police station in the estate is located at Plot 522 and 695 Road, close to the Catholic Church.
The FHA is planning to construct a new three-story Police station worth ₦205 million on Plot 695 Road. The current land housing the Police Station will be converted into an extension office of the FHA, with a three-story building to provide office accommodation, parking space for staff and customers.
The FHA management has been in talks with the Police Authority, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), and the FCT Water Board to relocate from the area. The Police have provided the FHA with the design for the new building, and FHA professionals are working on the project.
The FHA has urged the public to disregard the allegations made by Human Rights Radio, Abuja, and assured that the Nigeria Police station has not been allocated to anyone. Instead, it will be developed into a befitting office complex for use by the FHA.
