NCS Intercepts N1billion Contrabands in S/East
The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone C, Owerri of the Nigeria Customs Service, says it intercepted over N1 billion worth of contraband items from smugglers in the South-East in the first quarter of the year.
FOU Zone C is in charge of operations of the Nigeria Customs Service in the South Eastern States.
The Customs Controller FOU Zone C, Comptroller Bishir Abdullahi Balogun, said that as part of the unit’s revenue recovery program, the sum of N13.5 million was generated from Demand Notices (DN) issued to importers who, according to him, had attempted to deny the federal government its actual revenue.
Balogun while describing the activities of smugglers said those involved are economic saboteurs, whose desire is to bring in prohibited goods into the country that have negative impact on local industries, and also affect the well-being of individuals.
