After Economic Confidential’s Report, NYSC to Start Paying Corpers’ ₦77K Allawee
By Tahir Ahmad,
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that corps members will start receiving their new monthly allowance of ₦77,000 from March 2025.
This announcement came a day after Economic Confidential on Wednesday published a report exposing the Federal Government’s failure to implement the increase, despite approving it in August 2024.
The report, which highlighted the frustration of corps members struggling with the rising cost of living, sparked widespread reactions.
In response, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, addressed corps members in Wuse and Garki, Abuja, yesterday, assuring them that the Scheme was committed to their welfare.

“With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is good at record-keeping, and I can assure you that your money will be paid. The nation and the Scheme appreciate you,” he said.
He urged corps members to remain calm, disciplined, and dedicated to their national service, emphasizing that their contributions were valued.
The delay in implementing the allowance had drawn criticism, especially as the government had quickly approved funds for other expenditures.
Economic Confidential’s report highlighted the disparity, amplifying corps members’ concerns.
While the NYSC’s assurance has been welcomed by some, others remain skeptical, citing past unfulfilled promises.
A cross section of corps members interviewed by Economic Confidential said they will only believe the assurance when they receive the new allowance in their accounts.
