Customs Seizes N1.4bn Smuggled Items in South West
Operatives of the Joint Border Patrol Team Sector 2 of the Nigeria Customs Service have intercepted N1.4 billion worth of goods allegedly being smuggled in and out of the country through the land borders in the South West zone.
The items which include Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol, bags of rice, used clothes and medicaments, among others, formed the bulk of the seizures recorded by the team in July and August, 2024.

Addressing newsmen in Lagos, the coordinator of the Joint Border Patrol Team, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Mohammed Salisu Shuaibu, revealed that the prohibited items seized within the period under review have been deposited into the six government warehouses across the South West.
“Today, I am pleased to give the public a brief on the activities of the sector for the period between July and August 2024.
“The federal government in 2019 constituted the joint operation with the view to curbing smuggling activities and other cross-border crimes that threaten our national and economic security.”
