FG Meets Stakeholders to Resolve Dangote Refinery Impasse
The honourable minister of state petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, in a decisive move to address the ongoing challenges plaguing the Dangote Refinery, has convened a high-level meeting with key industry stakeholders.
The crucial gathering took place with the aim of resolving the issues that have been affecting one of Nigeria’s most significant industrial projects.
The meeting brought together a powerful roster of attendees, including Mr. Aliko Dangote, Chairman and CEO of Dangote Group; Mr. Farouk Ahmed, Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA); Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC); and Mr. Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).

Stakeholders expressed their appreciation for the Minister’s exemplary leadership and timely intervention. The discussions centred on developing sustainable and lasting solutions to the impasse affecting the refinery. The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration and proactive problem-solving, with all parties demonstrating a strong commitment to working together.
Senator Lokpobiri underscored the critical need for cooperation and synergy among all stakeholders to ensure the success and optimal performance of the oil and gas sector. He emphasised that the health of this sector is vital for Nigeria’s economic growth and energy security.
The meeting marks a significant step towards resolving the challenges at the Dangote Refinery, reaffirming the government’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
The Dangote Refinery, once operational, is poised to become a game-changer for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, significantly reducing the country’s dependency on imported refined products. The resolution of its current challenges is therefore crucial for the nation’s economic stability and growth.
It can be recalled that Dangote has been having issues with the government over his refinery project in Lagos.
He had earlier narrated how a cabal was blocking his moves to import crude and how it has been difficult to get products, slowing down operations.
But the situation took a worse turn when the NMDPRA said the government was yet to license the Dangote refinery to begin operations.
