NSCDC Confiscates 767 Kegs Of Petrol From Vandals
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has seized 767 jerry cans filled with Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol from some suspected pipeline vandals in the coastal areas of Lagos State.
The seizure was made on July 22 and 27 during the patrol of men of the NSCDC Lagos State command at the Atlas Cove, Lagos.
The Commandant of the NSCDC in Lagos State, Mr Tajudeen Balogun, said this in an interview with our correspondent.
Balogun said although none of the suspected pipeline vandals was arrested, two vehicles used by the hoodlums were recovered by his men during one of the operations.
Balogun said, “Men of the Anti-Vandalism Unit of Lagos State Command attached to Atlas Cove at about 9.00pm on July 22 received an intelligence report on storage of products suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit around Ilashe.
“Five hundred and six jerry cans of 25 litres of petrol were discovered at Abule Kamoru, Ilashe. No suspect was apprehended but investigation is still ongoing to arrest the culprits.
“Based on our integrity and credibility, we got another intelligence report which was corroborated by our intelligence department that vandalism might happen at the Atlas Cove on the pipeline.
“Based on this, our men intensified their patrol of the area and at about 12.30am on Saturday, July 27, 2019,they smelt petrol which, indicated a possibility of pipeline vandalism in the area. They moved closer and noticed some movements and stopped their patrol van. The suspects saw this and fled into the bush.
“Our men decided not to open fire on them because doing so could make the whole area engulf in fire. However, our men discovered 261 jerry cans ( 30 litres each) of suspected premium motor spirit and two vehicles (one Nissan pickup and one Nissan SUV). This happened at Idi Mango in Akaraba, Atlas Cove, Lagos.”
Balogun called on residents of the places close to the pipeline areas to always make useful information available to the agency, while assuring them of utmost confidentiality.
