Nigeria is in the news again on global reckoning when Professor
‘Dibu Ojerinde, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board was elected the President of the International Association
for Educational Assessment (IAEA); the world body for examination and associated organizations.
The IAEA offers a global forum for all those involved
in all forms of educational assessment – in primary or secondary schools,
colleges or the workplace. Its members include examining bodies, university
departments, research organisations and government agencies from more than 50
countries on all continents.
The Registrar of JAMB will preside over the annual conference of the world association in August 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand where far reaching decisions affecting the examination industry all over the world but with emphasis on Africa, Asia and the Caribbean will be taken. He is equally to preside over the Conference holding in Manila, Philippines in 2011. Professor Ojerinde is also the Vice President of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa and will be hosting the regional body in Abuja in October 2010 during the body’s annual Conference.
Professor Dibu Ojerinde was born on in Igboho, Oyo
State. He was educated at Wesley College, Ibadan ( TC II -1964), Adeyemi
College of Education, Ondo (NCE- 1968), University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo
University) (B.Sc.- 1973 & M.Ed- 1975) and Cornell University, Ithaca, New
York (Ph.D -1978). He became a Professor in October 1986.
Professor Ojerinde is an Academic and Administrator. He
taught briefly at Laogun Methodist Grammar School, Ibadan (1965), Iseyin
District Grammar School, Iseyin (1970), College of Advanced Studies, Kano
(1975) and University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife between
1973 and 1990. He was the Director, Institute of Education in the same
University between 1984 and 1990.
Professor Ojerinde has scored many firsts; he is the
first Nigerian Professor of Tests and Measurement. He was pioneer Director,
Monitoring and Evaluation, National Primary Education Commission (NPEC), 1990 –
1991, first Director/Consultant, Centre for Educational Measurement (CEM),
Federal Ministry of Education 1991 – 1992, the first Registrar/Chief Executive,
National Board for Educational Measurement (NBEM), 1992 – 1999 and the first
Registrar/Chief Executive, National Examinations Council (NECO), 1999 – 2007.
As an avid writer, Professor Ojerinde authored and co-authored several books, manuscripts, monographs including published and unpublished articles. He was the Editor, Ife Journal of Theory and Research in Education. He is currently involved in the Development of Aptitude Tests for Junior Secondary Schools in Nigeria. He has also chaired and moderated various International Conferences at different times.
Professor Ojerinde belongs to several professional
bodies both home and abroad. He is the President of the International
Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA). He is the Vice President of the
Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) and a member of
the Nigerian Psychological Association
(NPA), Educational Studies Association of Nigeria, among others.
A widely travelled man, Professor Ojerinde has received
numerous distinctions and awards. He was acknowledged as the first
Registrar/Chief Executive Officer to introduce online application in to the
conduct of examination in Nigeria.
Taking into consideration his pedigree, Professor Dibu
Ojerinde was appointed as the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions
and Matriculation Board in April 2007
Professor Dibu Ojerinde is married and blessed with five (5) children.
