The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has appointed Tony Attah, as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
He takes over from Babs Omotowa, who has been in office since December 2011.
In a statement signed by the NLNG General Manager, External Relations, Kudo Eresia-Eke, the company’s Board of Directors approved Attah’s appointment to replace its immediate past head Mr. Babs Omotowa who has been in charge in the last five years.
Mr. Omotowa, who has been redeployed to Shell International in Hague, Netherlands was appointed NLNG boss by the Board in December 2011. The statement indicated that he would be missed for his “uncommon vision, professionalism, compassion and commitment”.
Eresia-Eke also said the new NLNG helmsman is taking over after returning from an assignment at Shell’s Group Integrated Gas business as senior projects advisor – working on projects in the Netherlands and Singapore.
The NLNG new CEO’s roles include sustaining the gas’s giant top quartile performance in supplying liquefied natural gas to the global energy market as well as advancing the company’s expansion programmes.
The company established about two decades ago is owned by the Federal Government, represented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) with (49 per cent); Shell Gas BV, (25.6 per cent), Total LNG Nigeria Limited (15 per cent), and Eni International (N.A,) N. V. S. a. r. l (10.4 per cent).
“He leaves the company in a stronger position and well positioned for the next chapter of the company’s growth,” it said.
The statement noted that Attah, who was appointed by the company’s Board of Directors, will be taking over from Omotowa after returning from an assignment at Shell’s Group Integrated Gas business as Senior Projects Advisor, working on projects in The Netherlands and Singapore.
Attah, before the new appointment, was the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo).
With 28 years experience in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, Attah is a trained mechanical engineer and an MBA holder, who started his career in Sokoto Cement Company as a Maintenance and Operations Shift Supervisor.
Attah joined Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 1991, working in various technical and management roles in Field Maintenance, Production Operations, Core Engineering and Major Projects Commissioning, Rotating Equipment Engineering among others.
“At NLNG, Attah will be responsible for sustaining NLNG’s top quartile performance in supplying LNG to the global energy market and advancing the company’s expansion programmes,” the statement added.
