FG Approves N6bn for Three Mega Schools in Gombe
The Federal Government has approved ₦6 billion for the construction of three mega schools in Gombe State, according to the Minister of Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Ahmadu.
Speaking in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area, during the inauguration of a 250-bed hostel built by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Ahmadu said the schools were part of efforts to make education more accessible and competitive in the region.
The three schools are located in Dadin Kowa (Gombe Central), Dukku (Gombe North), and Kaltungo (Gombe South) Senatorial Districts, all constructed by the NEDC.
Ahmadu stressed that the intervention was designed to bridge educational gaps between the North-East and other parts of Nigeria.
“The federal government is focused on providing modern learning environments that inspire students and improve academic outcomes,” he said.
The minister noted that the schools are equipped with essential facilities, including decent student accommodation, which he said would enhance concentration and performance by creating a supportive atmosphere.
He commended the Gombe State Government for collaborating with the NEDC, describing the partnership as a model for sustainable educational development and regional growth.
Mega schools in Nigeria are large, modern complexes featuring ICT labs, libraries, and classrooms, often targeted at providing safe learning environments for thousands of students, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and orphans.
