Power Minister Tegbe Unveils Five Priorities to Achieve Stable Electricity Supply

‎Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Olusunkanmi Tegbe, has outlined five key priorities aimed at stabilising electricity supply and repositioning the nation’s power sector for sustainable growth.

‎According to the minister, the priorities are designed to address longstanding challenges affecting electricity generation, transmission, distribution, metering, and the financial sustainability of the sector.

‎The minister identified the first priority as enhancing gas supply to boost power generation capacity across the country, noting that improved access to gas remains critical to increasing electricity output.

‎He also stressed the need to improve grid infrastructure to enhance reliability and reduce frequent outages that continue to affect households and businesses nationwide.

‎As part of reforms in the distribution segment, Tegbe said the government would implement stronger accountability measures in distribution companies to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.

‎The minister further disclosed plans to expedite the rollout of electricity meters to customers in a bid to reduce estimated billing and improve transparency in electricity consumption and payments.

‎He added that restoring financial viability across the power sector remains a major priority, describing it as essential to attracting investment and ensuring long-term stability in the industry.

‎Tegbe reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the power sector through strategic reforms capable of delivering more reliable electricity supply to Nigerians.
