Tax Evaders Behind New Laws’ Criticism – NRS Chairman
The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, says evaders and unpatriotic individuals are behind criticisms of Nigeria’s new tax laws.
Adedeji stated that those spreading misinformation about the laws are doing so for selfish motives, rather than patriotic reasons.
“The people promoting these rumors and misinformation are those avoiding taxes,” Adedeji said, adding that the reforms aim to protect ordinary citizens and stimulate economic growth.
He urged Nigerians to study the provisions of the new tax laws and understand how they apply to their individual circumstances, rather than relying on rumors.
Adedeji dismissed calls for the suspension of the tax laws, describing them as unconstitutional and untenable. “No individual, except in an emergency, can suspend the law,” he emphasised.
