Fifteen Nigerian states have allocated N10.7tn for capital expenditure in 2026, focusing on roads, schools, hospitals, and public utilities. The states include Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, and Imo.

Ebonyi State leads with N749.49bn (84.7% of its budget), followed by Imo (N1.2tn, 83.4%) and Enugu (N1.29tn, 80%).

The funding mix includes loans, bonds, grants, and public-private partnerships. Experts urge governors to boost local revenue and attract investments.

Lagos, with the largest budget (N4.237tn), allocates 29.2% to capital projects. Other states prioritize infrastructure, with Kaduna (70.9%), Edo (67.8%), and Kano (63.3%).

Yobe allocates N291.9bn (56.6%), Oyo N505bn (56.6%), and Osun N388.38bn (55%). Ondo sets aside N303.58bn (57.9%).

Experts stress fiscal sustainability requires productive local economies, broader tax bases, and smart collaboration. “Attracting investment requires reliable infrastructure and predictable policies,” says Dr. Ayodeji Ebo.
