Senator Shehu Buba Presents Bill to Convert ATBU to Conventional University

Senator Shehu Buba Umar (Bauchi South) has taken a significant step toward expanding educational opportunities in Bauchi State and the wider region by presenting a bill to amend the establishment law of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU).

The bill, which passed its First Reading on the floor of the Senate today, October 9, 2025, aims to convert the specialized institution into a conventional university.

This proposed change would allow the “great ATBU” to offer a wider range of courses across various disciplines, including natural and applied sciences, technology-based programs, social sciences, and the arts.

The move, seen as progressive by stakeholders, is intended to meet the dreams and aspirations of citizens by improving the educational fortunes of the Bauchi South Senatorial District and Nigeria at large. The development has been welcomed, with supporters calling on all citizens to join hands with Senator Buba and other stakeholders to ensure the realization of this “lofty dream.”
