Pipeline Security Boosts Output to 1.84mbpd, NNPC Reveals

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) says crude oil production has risen from a historic low of 960,000 barrels per day in 2022 to an average of 1.71mbpd, peaking at 1.84mbpd in 2025, thanks to intensified pipeline security in the Niger Delta.

Group Chief Executive Officer Bashir Bayo Ojulari disclosed this at a Parliamentary Roundtable on Pipeline Security in Abuja, noting that the gains were achieved through deliberate government efforts to secure oil infrastructure.

Ojulari explained that the success was driven by an integrated energy security model combining legislative and executive alignment, actionable intelligence, kinetic deployment, regulatory oversight, industry cooperation, and community surveillance.

He said tackling oil theft and pipeline sabotage had restored investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

“The resurgence of production due to the effective tackling of the twin menace of oil theft and pervasive pipeline sabotage has led to the restoration of investors’ confidence,” he stated.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Jimoh Ibrahim, called for stronger collaboration among agencies, while House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Julius Ihonvbere, urged stakeholders to evaluate progress to ensure fairness.

The roundtable featured presentations from security agencies including the military, police, DSS, NSCDC, and private firms, highlighting the multi-layered approach to securing pipelines.

Ojulari’s remarks came days after the NUPRC confirmed production had peaked at 1.84mbpd in March, up from 1.4mbpd in February when turnaround maintenance reduced output.

The NNPCL said the improved security framework is central to sustaining production growth and stabilising Nigeria’s oil revenues.
