NWDC Boss Seeks Board Guidance on Human Resources Ahead Full Operations

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, has called for guidance on staffing, office accommodation and operational readiness as the Commission prepares for full take-off.
Ma’aji made the call while welcoming members of the Board Subcommittee on Establishment, Governance and Human Resources during their inaugural oversight visit to the Commission in Kano.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Abdulrashid Yusuf Safana, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the meeting was the first joint engagement between the subcommittee and NWDC management and focused on aligning key institutional requirements for the effective commencement of the Commission’s mandate.
“On behalf of the management, I sincerely appreciate your presence and your commitment to ensuring that this organisation is properly positioned to fulfil its mandate. Your oversight role is particularly important at this stage, as we work towards establishing a strong institutional foundation and ensuring effective commencement of our full activities,” Ma’aji said.
He identified personnel and human resources as a priority area, stressing that a competent and adequately structured workforce is essential for service delivery.
“We look forward to your guidance and recommendations on our staffing structure, manpower requirements, capacity development, deployment, and other human resources matters necessary for effective service delivery,” he stated.
He also highlighted office accommodation and workspace as critical to creating a conducive environment for staff, while urging the subcommittee to consider both current and projected space requirements, as well as infrastructure needed to support operations.
Ma’aji further emphasised the need for coordinated decisions on staffing, office facilities, operational procedures, and logistics to ensure the Commission is ready to commence full activities.
He welcomed the Chairman of the Subcommittee, Dr Yahaya Aminu, and other members, and called for continued collaboration to position NWDC to deliver on its mandate of accelerating development in the seven North-West states.
The subcommittee is expected to review NWDC’s proposals and provide recommendations to the Governing Board to strengthen the Commission’s institutional and human resource framework.
NWDC was established to drive infrastructure development and human capital investment in North-West Nigeria, with focus on agriculture, education, health, enterprise development, and institutional strengthening.
