NNPC Denies Ownership of Cannabis Truck
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has disowned a fuel truck intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State with 2,145kg of cannabis concealed in its compartment.
NNPC said preliminary checks showed the truck, with registration number MKA 960 XC, was neither owned by the company nor part of its official fleet or authorised dealers.
The vehicle bore NNPC’s old logo, which the company noted was inconsistent with its current branding.
Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said: “Preliminary checks indicate that the vehicle is neither owned by NNPC Ltd nor part of the official fleet of the company or any of its authorised dealers.”
The company disclosed it was engaging the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners to establish how its old branding came to be displayed on the truck. It stressed that unauthorised use of its corporate identity was taken seriously, especially when linked to unlawful activity.
NNPC pledged full cooperation with NDLEA and other security agencies to investigate the incident, determine ownership of the vehicle, and review its brand-protection protocols. It said legal action would be taken where warranted.
The company urged the public and authorities to verify the ownership of vehicles purporting to belong to NNPC through official channels. It also commended NDLEA for its vigilance and sustained efforts against illicit drug trafficking.
NNPC reiterated its commitment to protecting its corporate identity and ensuring its assets are not misused in ways that could damage its reputation or be associated with criminal activity.
