Nigeria’s Exports to Africa Surge 97%, Hit N4.9tn
Nigeria’s exports to African countries surged 97.16% year-on-year in Q3 2025, reaching N4.9tn, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The data highlights a shift toward intra-African trade and BRICS markets, as exports to China jumped 230% to N2.26tn and Brazil rose nearly 20%.
In contrast, exports to the United States and India slumped by over 50%, largely due to tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, which stakeholders say made the US “less attractive” for Nigerian exporters.
Industry leaders from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce noted that exporters are diversifying into BRICS, Turkey, and the UAE, citing fewer trade barriers and growing demand.
They warned that uncertainty around the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act could deepen Nigeria’s pivot away from the US, while urging the government to strengthen intra-African trade under the AfCFTA and explore new sectors like digital services and green technologies.
