Nigeria Records N12.64trn Trade Surplus in 2025 H1
Nigeria’s foreign trade performance in the first half of 2025 showed a strong positive outlook, as exports outpaced imports to deliver a surplus of N12.64 trillion, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The bureau’s latest figures indicate that total trade within the period stood at N74.06 trillion. Out of this, exports accounted for N43.35 trillion, while imports amounted to N30.71 trillion, reflecting Nigeria’s sustained drive to boost non-oil exports and strengthen foreign exchange inflows.
Analysts note that the trade surplus is a positive indicator for the Nigerian economy, particularly at a time of heightened demand for foreign exchange and efforts by the government to stabilise the naira.
The development also suggests that ongoing reforms in the trade and investment sectors may be yielding results, with improved competitiveness of Nigerian products in the international market.
