The Federal Government has released N5.2billion for the development of Kano Free Trade Zone (KFTZ), Acting General Manager, KFTZ, Mallam Tanko Malumfashi, has said.
About 150 investors had applied to operate within the zone due to its strategic location, out of which 100 were considered and issued provisional approval, while 15 have been given lands to move into the zone.
Malumfashi said as a result of the investment drive carried out by the zone and the facilities provided by the authority, more than 150 investors’ application forms were purchased by potential investors,.
He told newsmen that various developmental projects had been going on in the site which had increased the business activities of the entire host communities surrounding the zone.
He said a 4.2km access road from the airport junction to the zone’s main entrance gate has been completed.
He added that the construction of a 2.38km internal road networks was about to be completed while another six kilometre internal roads to sub-base level has been opened up.
He listed other on-going projects to include the perimeter fence wall, construction of the main entrance gate and tower, administrative office complex and a conference room, fire service station, warehouse, factory building, banking service and power supply.
"There is the environmental protection building which serves as a laboratory office where various tests would be conducted on waste produced from factories operation in the zone. At present, the zone has two 500KVAs, two 100KVA, and 50KVA for both the staff quarters and the zone usage.
Malumfashi said presently, there was a custom, police and immigration post right inside the zone to ensure adequate security for investors.
The trade zone, which sits on 262.01 hectares of land, will have basic amenities such as steady power supply, water, security and accommodation for investors.
