Anambra to Construct Ring Road Open Up Mamu Forest Reserve

The Anambra State government has promised to construct a major ring road in the state passing through Mamu Forest Reserve in Orumba North, one of the biggest in Nigeria. The project would provide relief to over 15,000 settlers in the area.

The state commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Chima Okafor said the 28 kilometer of road would be constructed by Governor Peter Obi’s administration to open up the Mamu reserve.

He said that the road if opened up would reduce the distance covered in going to Awka in 25 minutes through Ufuma junction-Awa-Ndiukwuenu-Mamu Forest Reserve-Amansea and continues a ring road through Ebenebe in Awka North to Anambra North axis. He said the only access road to the Mamu Forest Reserve is through Enugu state and has caused a lot of havoc to the settlers while evacuating their farm produce for sale.

Okafor revealed that the reserve was done during the Michael Okpara era and that there is nothing good in reserves that is not found there bountifully . He reminded that although the people of Orumba are in need of roads but would be patience for the Governor to finish the numerous ongoing projects in the area before demanding for more , but reaffirmed that the Gov would open up the Mamu Forest.
