Nigeria Demands a Review of World Bank Road Programmes

The Minister of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Hassan Muhammad Lawal, has urged for a review of the procedures and policies on various road projects under the World Bank Road Assisted Programmes.

The Minister made the appeal while receiving in audience the World Bank Sector Director, Sustainable Development, Inger Andersen. The Minister lamented that despite the fact that the Federal Government paid its counterpart funding in 2009, the World Bank policies and procedures for projects executions hampered the implementation of road projects in that year.

He however said that the Federal Government will continue to work closely with the World Bank towards ensuring good road network in Nigeria.

Earlier, the World Bank Sector Director, Sustainable Development, Inger Andersen stressed the importance the world bank attached to infrastructural development especially in the road sector and therefore reiterated the support of the world bank to achieve sustainable growth and development of the country.

In the same vain, the World Bank Country Director in Nigeria, Onno Ruhl, further emphasized that the world bank has a budget of Three Hundred and Twenty Million Dollars, (about Fifty Billion Naira) billion waiting to be used for roads development in Nigeria.
