FERMA to pay more attention to supervision and quality – MD/CEO

Managing Director/CEO of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Engr. Kabiru Abdullahi, has stated that the agency will pay more attention to supervision and monitoring of jobs executed by the agency and sanction erring staff who fail to be meticulous in the supervision of contract works awarded by the agency.

He made this disclosure recently in Bauchi while addressing participants in an in house training workshop on the theme:

“responsibilities of site supervisors and techniques in road maintenance “. He said henceforth, there will be close monitoring of supervising staff on projects from headquarters to ensure that set standards and procedures are followed.

He also said that the agency had established zonal laboratories to test materials used for road works and its mobile laboratory establishment is in progress to ensure that contractors meet all specification of materials before they commence any road works. The MD said FERMA can boast of enough experienced engineers with track record of notable achievements spanning their assignment in the Agency.

Engr. Abdullahi, admonished resource persons who were all drawn within the agency to endeavour to impart the knowledge they have gained over the years on the young engineers who would be taking over from them when they retire from service. He further averred that the agency has recently embarked on an aggressive road repair and maintenance activities to recover federal roads, and put an end to carnage on the highways. He said this effort has yielded a lot of positive results with applause pouring in from state governors, traditional rulers, politicians and road users.

The training was meant to sharpen the skills and competence of supervisors and technicians. Some of the participants admitted that they have benefited immensely; saying that, they are now better equipped to discharge their duties more effectively. The same training programme had earlier been held in Enugu, Kano and, Akure for all engineering officers in the entire agency.
