In its bid to tackle fiscal challenges facing the State and improve Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has commenced the collection of road infrastructural maintenance levy from operators of commercial vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles following the recent enactment of the State’s Revenue Harmonisation Law.

At the official flag off, chairman of Kogi Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Yakubu Oseni, said the levy became imperative in a bid to sustain the ongoing infrastructural development across the three senatorial districts of the state by Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Alhaji Oseni who was represented by the Coordinating Director of Operations, Alhaji Sadiq Ibrahim Ohindase, said after “painstaking discussions with the leaders of various transporters”, it was unanimously agreed that all commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists would make daily remittance of N100, while vehicles with four, 10 and above tyres would pay N200, N500 and N1000 respectively

In their separate remarks, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr William Inalegwu and the Sector Commander, Federal Roads Safety Corps, Mr Olusegun Martins, emphasised that the prototype of Lagos State development can be actualised in Kogi State if taxes were judiciously paid.

In his remarks, the representative of Road Transport Employees, Comrade Aliyu Akava, while expressing readiness to partner the state government, said the union would ensure a hitch-free collection of the levy across the state.
