FG Commits ₦10.5bn to Digital Training Academy for 32,000 Nigerians
The Federal Government has launched a ₦10.5bn Digital Training Academy (DTA) to equip 32,000 Nigerians with globally competitive digital and professional skills.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa announced the initiative in Abuja, saying it was designed to bridge Nigeria’s digital skills gap, improve employability and prepare citizens for opportunities in the global digital economy.
Implemented under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), the academy will provide free access to training via platforms such as Coursera and Pluralsight. Courses will cover high-demand areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, fintech, product management and quantum computing.
Alausa explained that the programme goes beyond certificates, linking training to employment, entrepreneurship and productivity. Access centres have been established nationwide to support learners without personal computers or reliable internet.
The academy complements other government initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme and the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP). Graduates of 3MTT can obtain globally recognised certifications, while NATEP will connect skilled Nigerians to international labour markets.
The portal will enrol 32,000 learners and award certificates across more than 10 skill areas. Applicants must register with their National Identification Number, undergo pre-assessment and begin training tailored to their results.
From 72,850 applications received in August, 16,000 Nigerians were selected for the inaugural cohort. Alausa urged beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously, stressing that the investment should translate into jobs, businesses and increased productivity.
