FAAN, Security Operatives Nab Four Suspects Near Akure Airport

‎The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and a coalition of security agencies have arrested four suspected bandits near Akure Airport, in a coordinated operation aimed at enhancing aviation security.

‎The suspects were apprehended on 15 March 2026 following reports of suspicious individuals near the airport perimeter towards the Eleyewo community. In response, FAAN’s Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and local security outfits launched a joint search and patrol operation.

‎During the operation, some individuals attempted to flee, but four were eventually taken into custody and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further interrogation.

‎FAAN commended the swift collaboration among aviation security personnel, the military, police and community security groups, including Amotekun and local vigilantes, whose combined efforts led to the successful apprehension.

‎The arrest underscores ongoing concerns about airport perimeter vulnerabilities. In response, FAAN reaffirmed its commitment — alongside the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development — to accelerate perimeter fencing and strengthen security infrastructure at airports nationwide with support from the Presidency.

‎Work has already begun in phases to ensure airports under FAAN’s purview are better protected against unlawful access and security threats, officials said.

‎FAAN also reassured travelers and host communities of its unwavering commitment to safety and the security of all airport facilities across the country.
