Enugu Air Aircraft Skids Off Runway at Benin Airport
An aircraft operated by Enugu Air veered off the runway after landing at Benin Airport on Thursday, prompting an immediate emergency response.
In a statement, the airline confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, with no injuries or fatalities recorded.
“The aircraft has been secured and the relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with established procedures. An assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is currently underway,” Enugu Air said.
The incident temporarily disrupted flight operations at the airport as emergency responders secured the aircraft and aviation officials began investigations.
Enugu Air acknowledged that the runway excursion may lead to temporary adjustments in flight schedules.
“Affected passengers will be contacted directly and provided with the necessary assistance,” the airline assured.
The carrier emphasized that safety remains its highest priority. “A fully supplied, fully operational Enugu Air serving the Nigerian market is an obligation we share without reservation. We are cooperating fully with the relevant aviation authorities as investigations continue,” the statement added.
Passengers expressed relief at the swift evacuation, while aviation officials noted that such incidents highlight the importance of robust emergency protocols.
