Dangote Denies Selling Petrol Cheaper to Togo than Nigerian Marketers

The Dangote Group has refuted claims that its refinery sells petrol to international traders, including those in Togo, at lower prices than those offered to Nigerian marketers.

The Depot and Petroleum Product Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) had recently alleged that while Nigerian marketers face higher prices, the refinery supplies the commodity at cheaper rates to foreign buyers, with petrol reportedly going for about ₦1,826 per litre in Togo.

In a swift reaction, Dangote described the allegation as false and misleading. The company maintained that its pricing structure for petrol sales remains fair, transparent, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

According to the refinery, cost variations perceived by marketers may stem from differences in operational and logistical charges. Dangote explained that lifting fuel directly from its Nigerian facility involves higher port, loading, and discharge fees compared to offshore terminals in neighbouring countries, which may create the impression of cheaper prices abroad.

The Group insisted it has not given preferential treatment to foreign traders, stressing that its commitment remains to adequately supply Nigeria’s domestic market while also serving international demand.

While DAPPMAN continues to press for clarification, Dangote affirmed that it would keep working with stakeholders to ensure fair access and stable pricing in the Nigerian downstream sector.
