Businesses Spent N2trn on Diesel in Two Months
The Chairman of the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics, Dele Oye, has criticised the Federal Government’s energy sector reforms, warning they fail to reflect economic realities faced by households and businesses.
Oye said Nigerian companies spent an estimated N1.83 trillion on diesel in just two months, underscoring the persistent failure of the power sector to provide reliable electricity.
He also noted that NNPC Limited’s internal debt has risen by about 70 percent to N30.3 trillion.
He argued that true reform should be measured by improved electricity supply, reduced reliance on generators, and lower production costs, not by investment announcements.
“By these measures, Nigeria’s energy sector remains critically ill, and this report is a premature discharge summary,” Oye said.
