As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is still conducting investigation on some former governors who are yet to be arrested over allegations of mismanagement and diversion of funds while in office, the Economic Confidential has gathered that over N153 billion was misappropriated by four ex-governors that were held recently by the anti-corruption agency
Ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel is alleged to have misappropriated N58 billion from the Ogun State share of the Federation Account, Ex-Governor Danjuma Goje is accused of diverting N52billion from the account of Gombe State, Ex-Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala would be charged for mismanaging N25billion of Oyo State and Ex-Governor Aliyu Akwe-Doma Doma would explain how he misused N18 billions of Nasarawa State.
Goje had early escaped an arrest while the other three former governors were in detention, the EFCC explained that it had to come to the decision of publicly declaring the accused person wanted after an endless search for him and his failure to submit himself for interrogation over the alleged fraud even when he was in receipt of a letter of invitation to come out of his hiding.
According to the statement, “Patriotic Nigerians who may have useful information on the whereabouts of the wanted person are urged to kindly send same to any of the EFCC’s offices across the country or the nearest police station.”
The Commission had later detained all the four accused person, further said it would always work within the ambit of the law in the discharge of its responsibility and expects all citizens especially those being investigated to respect and obey the laws of the land.
Meanwhile the international passports of ex-governors Gbenga Daniel (Ogun), Adebayo Alao-Akala (Oyo), Aliyu Akwe-Doma (Nasarawa) and Danjuma Goje (Gombe) have been seized by the anti-corruption agency. They had already spent a weekend in EFCC’s cell before they could be charged to court.
The N52.9 billion said to have been mismanaged by Goje comprises N37.9billion loans obtained from 27 banks and N15 billion security votes spent at a time the state was not facing challenges to warrant that kind of expenditure. The security votes were allegedly applied for and withdrawn through a Principal Private Secretary, Dr. Sani Jauro.
