Vice presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Professor Yemi Osinbajo says if voted into office, the administration would curtail corruption and wasteful spending in government.
He revealed that the APC intends to deal with corruption in order to free more funds to run its government.
The professor spoke during an interactive session organised by actnow, a civil society group in Abuja where he decried the rate of the corruption in the country and how it has affected governance over the years.
According to Osinbajo, the over N4 trillion budgeted for the defence ministry was “either not spent on the right things or someone is lying to us”.
He further revealed that over N3billion was recovered from the loot of former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha but the money was not channelled to proper developmental areas.
He also identified various ministries and agencies where reckless spending can be curbed in order to raise more funds for governance.
Annually, the APC government according to Prof Osinbajo will create 20,000 jobs in each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory from such sectors as agriculture, power, education, science and technology.
During the interactive session which witnessed a large turnout by mostly youths, the Vice Presidential candidate also addressed issues of power supply, education and other critical sectors as contained in the party manifesto.
He explained APC’s plans to prioritise power supply to industrial areas and technology hubs where jobs can be created for youths and graduates alike.
This can be done by decentralisation of power and its transmission to local power plants in order to ensure that gas is easily accessible, a seemingly convinced Osinbajo stated.
The legal luminary also reiterated his party’s commitment to reforming education sector by providing free relevant education at primary and secondary levels which includes free lunch. He made reference to Osun state where some of N2.3billion is used in feeding students yearly.
“This will also provide employment for semi-skilled individuals like tailors and cooks in the areas where the schools are located” he said.
The manifesto of the party also promised to remove Nigerians from poverty by N5000- N7000 monthly stipend for the elderly who are not receiving pension and disabled who can’t work.
