Nigeria’s technology leader in the media monitoring industry, Compliance and Content Monitoring Limited (CCM), has unveiled a music tracking service known as musiktrak to provide superior media monitoring capability to stakeholders in the music industry.
The device, which is available on www.musiktrak.com provides comprehensive and verifiable log of the airplay of songs by local and foreign artistes across 260 radio and television stations across the country.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CCM Limited, Mr. Tunde Onadele, who disclosed this to newsmen at a press briefing recently in Lagos said, musiktrak is the first and only service that tracks songs, which play across Nigeria with 24/7 recording of free-to-air broadcast transmission from over 260 radio and television stations nationwide.
The Managing Director noted that “now that reliable data of song plays on radio and television stations in Nigeria is available, collective management organisations like COSON and MCSN have no excuse for not collecting royalties from broadcast organisations or paying same to right owners locally and abroad in a way that is fully transparent and accountable”.
He added that, some of the disputes in the industry can be averted and music makers, users, collection bodies and regulators can now focus on how to grow the industry.
According to him, “musiktrak is a most advanced detection and logging technology that can be put to effective use by various music industry stakeholders in comparative airplay for planning competitive activities and obtaining hard data for making royalty/legal claims or forecasting upcoming royalty fees.”
Speaking further Onadele disclosed that, the technology also enables users to engage in trend setting by seeing the trends before they go mainstream, anticipate fashions and record hits and build or update music database for new ideas or access details on new titles (first play).
He stressed that, musiktrak offering is presented in two comprehensive report packages – the musiktrak report and themusiktrak chart with graph and charts selections by song title, genre and broadcast station.
Noting that visitors to the website between now and February 28, 2015 will enjoy free reports for data generated between September 2013 and December 2014 only, he explained however, that data reports from January 1, 2015 subscribed to will attract payment.
He said that CCM is excited about offering musiktrak as proof of concept that data of song plays on broadcast stations across Nigeria can be reliably provided to all stakeholders. “We are ready and willing to work with all stakeholders using song data to reward right owners, both local and international artistes in a responsible and sustainable manner”, he added.
Concluding, the CEO said that subscribing to weekly reports that are processed and downloadable from the CCMmusiktak website would make music industry stakeholders to be better informed and able to stand up for their rights.
