As the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) deadline draws closer, Nigeria is said to require N4 .2 trillion annually to completely achieve all the set eight goals.

While receiving a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in her office, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs, Dr. Precious Gbenoel, disclosed that a total of N4.2 trillion  was needed annually to fund the MDGs in order to totally achieve the goals at both federal, states and the local government levels.

Gbeneol stated that the Office presently spends about N3trillion on its development programmes but needed an additional N1 trillion to close its funding gap across the eight development goals. She explained that the Office got about N140 billion allocations in the 2012 Debt Relief Gains(DRG), while N160 billion was released in 2013.

On her achievements, she disclosed that her office commissioned the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) to conduct a national household survey to capture a number of the key MDGs indicators for 2012, which she said were specific indicators that showed the specific progress being made by Nigeria.

She said a lot of progress has been made in all the goals and expressed confident that before the 2015 deadline, Nigeria would achieve goals 4 and 5 which is reducing child mortality and improving maternal health respectively.

She said a lot has been achieved in the agricultural sector.
