Nigerian Startup: Kaltani Receives $4 million to Tackle Plastic Waste Pollution

A Nigerian startup, Kaltani, that aims to address Africa’s plastic waste problem has received $4 million in seed funding.

The company announced that the new funding will enable it expand its operations by opening 20 new collection and aggregation center in Nigeria and increase its staff strength by over 500 people.

According to the firm’s founder Engineer Obi Charles Nnanna says that the world is facing a huge plastic problem facing the environment and will also increase the company’s capacity immensely to allow it to recycle up to 15,000 tonnes of plastic yearly.

With the vision to solve Africa’s growing plastic waste crisis by advancing the circular economy and recycling, best practices, th company says it is not relenting in its effort to solve waste problems.

He further noted that the company was established with the mission to solve plastic waste problems which are affecting lands, oceans and the environment, and that it has grown beyond just PET plastic recycling to PP&PE recycling.

Nnanna added that the world is facing a plastic pollution crisis. It is an environmental disaster which causes degradation to the oceans, aquatic life, the air and health.

It will be recalled that Tech startups in Nigeria raise over N281 billion in four months between January and April 2022.

According to a report by Renaissance Capital, these funds were raised in 107 deals announced in the same period this year.
