KEDCO Tribunal Task Force Underway
The task force tribunal which is to investigate and prosecute cases of energy theft, meter by-pass and associated offences for the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) will soon be inaugurated to prosecute errant customers with regard to cases of energy theft, meter by-pass and other offences.
The team has already arrived Kano and are making assessment exercises which after, the task force tribunal will be inaugurated and the tribunal is to be set up by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation.
The main activities will be to strictly prosecute after investigation, all cases of energy theft and related offences that are perpetuated to cause any economic loss to KEDCO. Similar tribunal has been operating in other discos franchise and it’s now time for Kano and Kaduna DisCos.
The team which has arrived Kano has already been interacting with staff and officers of KEDCO in preparatory for the commencement of activities in that regard.
We are herewith calling on all customers that have formed the habits of not paying their bills to desist from such to avoid the tribunal hammer.
It is our wish that customers regularly pay their bills and not pile up debts that may become difficult to pay which the tribunal frowns at. It is better to pay and avoid having issues to be treated by the tribunal task force as this will compel the concerned customer(s) to run around to pay all the debts at once which may be too burdening financially. So it is advised that customers should desist from piling up debts by refusing to pay their monthly bills.
As for those sabotaging KEDCO with regard to energy theft, meter by-pass and other activities that result to economic losses for KEDCO, should know that the days or eras of unholy businesses have ended as anybody found wanting in that regard will have himself or herself to blame before the tribunal as the law is not a respecter of human. Those who do these sabotaging businesses and think they have been living in a lawless world should know that with the coming of the tribunal it is either they turn a new leaf or leave the tribunal with no option than to send them to wherever they belong in line with the penalties of their offences.
This move is a genuine attempt to protect both KEDCO and the customers. Some of the meter by-pass and cases of energy theft are done without the consent of some genuine customers which means they will be paying for the energy that others who tap from them illegally are using which is an extra burden on them and KEDCO frowns at this. So, the tribunal will protect the customers as well as KEDCO in order for KEDCO to serve their customers better.
