
KEDCO Plans To Creating Sustainable Small-scale Markets In Their Domains – MD
Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), says KEDCO is aimed at creating sustainable small-scale markets that will facilitate scalable investments in rural communities through power distribution to all communities in their jurisdictions.
Gwamna who gave this hint in a chat with newsmen over the weekend said based on their research, the demand for energy end-use such as lighting, agricultural pumps and industrial machines was projected to grow significantly the economies of rural communities in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States.
According to him, the plan when implemented will help to enhance the economic performance of these states and address the critical concerns of affordability and access to electricity for all.
Gwamna, however noted that the success of the programme would depend on supports from Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) with regard to fixing faulty transformers to improve KEDCO capacity to serve the rural communities; adding that, host communities would assist in terms of protecting installations and equipment against vandalism, theft and sabotage.
“We are thinking and fashioning out ways to improve the economies of KEDCO States through a programme called power for all communities. From our research, we discovered that the energy end-use such as lighting, agricultural pumps and industrial machines in rural communities were factors necessitating such move.
“This is in line with our quest to see that we accommodate the complaints from customer and better the lots of communities that needed power to grow their economies.
“We will need the supports of TCN and host communities. Without these, it would be difficult to implement the programme. TCN would be needed to help out in fixing faulty transformers while the host communities would assist in helping to protect KEDCO installations.
The KEDCO boss appealed to TCN to assist by speedily fixing faulty transformers so as to enable KEDCO provides her numerous customers with world class services.
He also charged all KEDCO customers to cultivate the habit of paying for services rendered to them.
