
CSR: KEDCO to improve host communities in 2019
As a way of fulfilling its role of corporate social responsibility(CSR), The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna (Sardaunan Gombe) says KEDCO will improve upon the previous achievements to make lives better for host communities in 2019.
Dr Gwamna who gave this hint in an interview with newsmen in Kano said that such improvements had become necessary in view of the numerous benefits that the company was enjoying as a result of its cordial relationship with host communities.
He said that customers and members of host communities are key stakeholders in the power sector in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, hence, the king treatment in service delivery to them by KEDCO.
According to him, the CSR will majorly be in the health and education sectors, noting that materials would be distributed, and the capacities of students built to handle accidents in school using modern first aid box.
“Our quest to improve the well-being of our host communities in 2019 has become necessary because of the countless benefits of our cordial relationship with host communities.
“Customers and members of host communities are major stakeholders in the power sector that is why we treat them as kings in terms of service delivery.
“As part of our social responsibility, we will be distributing more mosquito insecticide nets, blankets, toiletries, drugs, to various hospitals and prisons within the concerned states,’’ he said.
The Kano DisCo boss added: “We will organise first aid awareness campaign in some selected schools on the dangers of fire outbreak and how to handle such cases.
“As an environmentally-friendly company, we shall also organise different sanitation exercise to rid the concerned states of dirt by way of building an environmentally healthy communities. We shall also be planting trees to fight desertification and help reverse deforestation.
The KEDCO boss emphasised that serving the host communities was part of the contributions that the company must render to fast-track developments as well as concretise the existing communicative platform, while strengthening all forms of relationships.
He appealed to the members of host communities to partner with KEDCO in keeping peace in their communities and help secure KEDCO installations by reporting suspected attempt to the relevant authority.
