AGF: 685,000 Workers’Salaries Moved To IPPIS Platform
The Accountant-general of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, on Thursday said the Federal Government had moved the salaries of 685,000 government workers in 480 Ministries, Departments and Agencies to the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System.
He said this during a meeting with the National coordinator and chief executive Officer of SERVICOM, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli, and the management team of SERVICOM.
The IPPIS is one of the Federal Government’s reform initiatives designed to undertake human resources management activities from recruitment to separation, including payroll and pension processing.
It also facilitates planning; aids budgeting; monitors monthly payment of staff emoluments against what is provided for in the budget; ensures database integrity; and facilitates easy storage updating and retrieval of personnel records for administrative and pension processes.
The AGF expressed the commitment of the Federal Government to fully implement all the public finance management reforms, particularly the IPPIS, as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Our implementation of the public finance management reforms, IPPIS, Treasury Single Account and the Government Integrated Management Information System, just to mention a few, which is largely being driven by Information and communication Technology, is a clear demonstration of our commitment to efficiency, effectiveness and transparency in delivering service in line with international best practice,” Idris said.
Responding to allegations against the office concerning the enrolment of officers of the Nigeria Police Force on the IPPIS platform, the AGF stated, “On the IPPIS, we have presently about 480 MDAS and over 685,000 personnel being paid without hitches or complaints; why will it be only the police that are complaining?”
The AGF explained that since the Nigeria Police just migrated the salaries of its personnel to the IPPIS platform, and given their numerical strength and other peculiarities associated with the police, there were bound to be some challenges.
“These challenges are being resolved through the multiple help desks established in the Treasury and other police commands across the nation,” he added.
On the issue of shortfalls in the payment of salaries, the AGF explained that these might be due to some statutory deductions on the platform.
He gave some of them as the National Housing Fund, which is 2.5 per cent of basic salary, and tax, calculated according to one’s earnings.
These, according to Idris, may not have been properly deducted previously.
earlier in her address, Akajemeila expressed satisfaction with the reforms being implemented in the management of the treasury.
