Dangote’s BUK Business School Worth N1.2bn Inaugurated

Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has donated a N1.2bn modern business school edifice to the Bayero University, Kano.

The business school is said to be the first in the northern part of the country.

Christened Dangote Business School, the business mogul said that talks were ongoing to affiliate the school with Harvard Business School of the United States of America.

At the opening of the school at the new site of the university, Dangote said effort was not spared to ensure that the school building was up to international standard and one of the biggest in the sub-Sahara Africa.

He said the business school, which was opened by the Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Ganduje, was conceived as part of his contributions to the development of entrepreneurship education in Nigeria.

He described it as the best of its kind in northern Nigeria, adding that the school which was accredited by the Nigerian University Commission, would be the first business school to offer Doctor of Business Administration programme in Nigeria.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Muhammed Bello, said with the new business school, the university was now poised to serve the society better through training, research and services.

He said the university adopted the name “Dangote Business School”, because the name Dangote is internationally synonymous with innovation, entrepreneurship and successes in business.

Bello stated that the new structure comprised 650 seating capacity auditorium, two theatres, four lecture halls, two libraries, incubation centre, two cafeteria, 800kva soundproof generator and borehole, among others.

Ganduje was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Hafeez Abubakar.

The Jigawa State Governor, Muhammed Abubakar, and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, were at the event.

Abubakar said Nigerians had a lot to learn from Dangote, pleading with the university authority to grant the business mogul opportunity to lecture once in a while in the school.

Sanusi said what Dangote had done was what he had always advocated for other Nigerians to do, adding that if the country got education right other things would fall in place.
