NAGGW Warns Public Against Fraudulent Sale of Agency Lands
The Director-General/CEO, National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), Saleh Abubakar, MFR and management staff, has commenced full headquarters operations from Kano in compliance with the Presidential directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking to journalists after an inspection tour of the Agency’s office facilities and surrounding premises, the Director-General described the relocation as a strategic step towards strengthening the Agency’s presence within its frontline states. He noted that operating closer to communities most affected by desertification and land degradation would enhance accessibility, deepen stakeholder engagement, and reinforce the Agency’s commitment to restoring degraded landscapes and improving livelihoods.
He further highlighted the Agency’s growing collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and other development partners in advancing sustainable land management and environmental restoration initiatives across the Great Green Wall frontline states.
Saleh cautioned members of the public against fraudulent individuals falsely claiming that the Agency’s lands are available for sale. He emphasized that all NAGGW lands are government assets dedicated strictly to official purposes and are therefore not for sale under any circumstances.
The Director-General dismissed reports suggesting that the Agency’s facilities in Kano are underutilized, stressing that the office remains fully functional and continues to serve as a strategic hub for the effective implementation of the Agency’s mandate.
He expressed confidence that the relocation would further improve operational efficiency, strengthen coordination across the frontline states, and deliver greater benefits to communities through enhanced environmental sustainability, land restoration, and climate resilience initiatives.
