Reps Thumb Up CBN’s Intervention Projects
The House of Representatives Committee on Banking and Currency has applauded the intervention projects of the Central Bank of Nigeria at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria(ASCON), Topo, Badagry, Lagos.
Speaking during the oversight visit of the Committee to CBN intervention projects in the South West geo-political zone, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Jones Onyereri, who led other members of the Committee, said that the Committee was impressed with the progress made in delivering on the project and the use of Nigerian contractors in the project “We are impressed because we didn’t think we can get this kind of outcome judging from our first visit which shows that it will be indeed nice to patronize Nigerian contractors”. The intervention project sites visited by the Committee included the three blocks of two and three-storey hostel buildings and an adjourning 500-seater auditorium at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Topo,. Badagry and the multi-complex faculty, hotel and auditorium facilities at the University of Lagos Centre of Excellence.
The facilities are part of the CBN’s commitment to building capacity for the nation’s banking industry.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Jones Onyereri, however warned the contractors to stick to the specifications and timelines of the projects as contained in their contracts as the Committee would not accept any deviation from the contractual agreements nor agree to any variation to the contract sums.
The oversight visit was in furtherance of the Committee’s constitutional responsibility and legislative mandate of supervising agencies of government under its purview.
Hon. Onyereri also commended the quality of job done by the contractors and noted that the CBN interventions at ASCON would create a conducive environment for learning, stating that they are worthwhile.
Also in the inspection team were CBN’s Ag. Director, Corporate Communications Department, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, and the Deputy Director in charge of the Projects, Mr. Oluwole Owoeye.
