Dangote Refinery Cuts Aviation Fuel Price to N1,650

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1) from ₦1,750 to ₦1,650 per litre, offering relief to Nigerian airlines struggling with rising costs.

Airline operators had recently warned of possible shutdowns, citing fuel prices that surged from about ₦900 per litre before the U.S.–Iran war to between ₦2,700 and ₦2,900, with some marketers charging as high as ₦3,300.

In its statement, the refinery said the price cut was accompanied by a 30-day interest-free credit facility, backed by bank guarantees for marketers and airlines, and a shift from dollar-denominated pricing to a naira-based model.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reduced the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1) to ₦1,650 per litre… in a move aimed at easing cost pressures on airlines and ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply across the country,” the company stated.

Industry stakeholders have repeatedly warned that escalating Jet A1 prices were placing severe financial strain on operators and threatening the sustainability of flight operations.

The refinery’s intervention is expected to lower procurement costs, stabilise airline operations, and support efforts to moderate airfares for passengers.

Aviation fuel accounts for a significant portion of airline expenses, and the refinery’s decision is seen as a strategic step to ease operational challenges in the sector.

Observers say the move could strengthen confidence in local refining capacity while reducing reliance on imports, especially during global energy crises.
