Kano Senate Aspirant Garba Yusuf Visits Contender Zaura, Preaches Peaceful Politics

A Kano Central senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Garba Yusuf Abubakar, has paid a courtesy visit to fellow contender, Abdulkarim Abdussalam Zaura (A.A. Zaura), calling for issue-based politics devoid of rivalry and violence.

The visit comes barely 24 hours after incidents of violence were reported in parts of Kano, including the Farm Centre—a major hub for mobile phones and computer sales—where suspected political thugs allegedly caused damage to property.

During the meeting, both aspirants emphasised their commitment to peaceful engagement ahead of the party primaries, stressing that their ambitions are driven by a shared desire to serve the people.

“As a result of our shared interest, we have both declared to run for the Kano Central Senatorial seat under the APC, all in a bid to bring change and transformation to our people,” Yusuf said.

“But to achieve this, we must first understand each other.”

Yusuf noted that the outcome of the primaries would ultimately be determined by divine will, urging both camps to remain focused on service rather than personal ambition.

“The final outcome will be whatever God has destined. If we agree on this, then our focus will remain on serving the people,” he said.

He described the visit as a gesture of respect and camaraderie, adding that political competition should not erode mutual understanding among aspirants.

“If you get the ticket, I will campaign for you. Likewise, if I emerge, I expect your support so we can work together for a united and prosperous constituency,” Yusuf added.

The aspirant also appealed to supporters on both sides to avoid inflammatory actions and embrace civility throughout the political process.

“I call on my supporters to respect you and your supporters, and I urge your camp to do the same. This race can go either way,” he said.

“We must move away from the old pattern where rivalry leads to destruction of lives and property, only for politicians to reconcile later. Let us set a new standard.”

The appeal comes amid growing political activities in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections, with analysts warning that early mobilisation could heighten tensions if not properly managed.

The meeting between Yusuf and Zaura sends a strong signal of maturity and could help de-escalate tensions within the APC, particularly in the Kano Central senatorial district. The call for peaceful engagement is seen as a step toward promoting stability within the party and the state.
